You know how a growing kid loves to play with his penis/her vagina. One morning, 'Juma' a 6 year old boy was caressing his penis (the baby way). His mother interrupted the moment and told Juma, to never play around with his 'respect' again. It was on Sunday afternoon when guests arrived in Juma's home, as they found comfort; Juma enjoyed driving his toy in between the guests feet as he made motorbike noises.
"Show your respect to the guests Juma"!! Juma's mom ordered. Juma indeed obeyed the order .
As much as we are trying to measure what young people should and shouldn't know, let 's not forget the synchronized channels around us. If only we get to communicate correctly and openly to young people to avoid the message confusion, or to assist a young person to effectively decide. Call it by the name: turn 'Private Parts'(PP) to 'Vagina or 'Penis'. The utmost concern is the slow attitudinal change among the community on sexuality that contributes to the spread of HIV.
During girls' vibe in one of project activity, the trainers introduced the menstruation topic. When a sanitary pad was produced, the girls who have not yet started their periods uuuuhhd and aaaahhd in with giggles in disbelief. When asked if they had seen a sanitary towel before, they said yes but the subject is known to be as a top secret. One girl told me she has seen it from an advert on TV, but she doesn't know when to use it. Silence and coding words kills!
