First Time Testing

As a 23 year old ‘adult’, working for the world’s largest multimedia HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, you’d think I’d be well aware of my status. It’s something that’s referenced every single day in my workplace; you get tested and know your status… Someone like me must practice what I preach, right?
Well… unfortunately if you thought that, you’d be wrong… Up until a month ago that is.

Here at Staying Alive, we believe that communication is key in the fight against HIV and AIDS, which is precisely why we've just launched our brand new campaign, Stand By What You Say.
We've joined forces with Spinvox, innovators of cool voice to text technology, and Causes on Facebook to get people talking about sex - with a view to breaking down barriers so often associated with talking about it.
Check out our blog at www.standbywhatyousay.com where you'll be able to call us and leave a message... this message will automatically be converted to text and posted on the blog.
One Night Only

How many people have one night stands?
The media, portrays casual sex as something that everyone does – but rarely does it talk about the consequences, well unless there’s just been a new round of ‘shocking research’ released!
There are loads of things to take into consideration before you jump into the sack…
The main two ones are pregnancy and STIs…

There's a wide variety of HIV awareness programming out there - from movies to PSAs right throught to celebrity interviews and documentaries. There are lots of ways to get a message out there - but what really works?!
Well, that's what we want to know... Out of all of the programming we produce - what makes you take the most notice?
You can check out all of our programming right here on our Media Page
What do you think we should do more of? And what should we do less of?
Boys and Girls...

Women have come a long way in the last 50 years, but there’s still a long way to go!
Why are the following things deemed acceptable for guys – but taboo for girls?
- masturbating – guys talk about ‘wanking’ all the time – if a girl dared to bring it up everyone would be shocked.
- having casual sex – why is a guy called a stud and deemed a hero by his mates when a girl is called easy and a slut?

Day 6, April 6TH, 2008
Getting tired now! Late nights and early starts to every day, I was really dragging this morning. But I had to be on form – I had a meeting at the American Embassy, so I heaved myself out of bed, showered (good to know!), and put on my only dress in the bag: yes, it needed to be ironed, but my commitment didn’t quite stretch that far!

DAY 5, 4TH APRIL 2008
Flying into Dar es Salaam you see a very different country from the one we’d just left. Tanzania is on the Indian Ocean, Ethiopia is land-locked; Dar looked pretty green as we flew over it, Addis is barren. And Dar is right in the middle of its rainy season, while in Addis and Awassa, we witnessed the first rain that has fallen in over 6 months!!

DAY 4, 2ND APRIL 2008
We left Awassa early in the morning for the drive back to Addis, where Sara and I met up with Bill Roedy (head of MTV, and Chair of the Staying Alive Foundation) and Peter Piot (Exec Director, UNAIDS and SAF Board Member).
