WE ARE HERE…SO WHAT!

The National conference on peer education and HIV and AIDS just ended on 20th June in Nairobi, the theme on ‘stigma’ was emphasized across board with pertinent issues put on table. This article has been motivated by Ishtar-MSM (Men who have sex with Men) group in Kenya, after sentiments during their presentation. I learnt a lot on advocacy and wish to address ALL MSM to speak up, and not with emotions. To be lesbian or gay is not OK to many.
Youth for re-branding of Africa

As a young African woman, seeing our leaders in dismay saddens me, and this drives me to realize that young people have a massive role to play in the re-branding of our continent.
Who's fooling who!

April, April, April….I cant believe this 'lying month'. Some of the tricks are horrible but it's always a taste of who loves you and who doesn't. I failed to understand how I could fool you twice-in 2007 and 2008! My Director learnt a massive lesson and he was alert this year. The trick is, prank people but don't let them know the date until when the favor is granted! Peris, my best friend is on top of my list of 'Prankaz', her prankz are always about 'people giving her money'.
Easter report

Galz day out!
I tried this during Easter. Our country is currently promoting local tourism to catch up with the BIG loss of post election violence.
My support for gals vibe is to have fun without necessary being in boy's company. One of my best girl friends at heart reminded me of how we spent the last Easter. Being around your peers and discussing issues that affects you is healthy.

I am still enjoying the peaceful breath in my country. You know, when our president is on his way to official work, he uses the few highways no matter where he is. This means that roads are blocked for hours! I wonder what happens now that we have a Prime Minister. Let that love reign forever!
UNPLANNED PREGNANCY IS NO ACCIDENT!

"I rushed to buy 'postinor 2' twice as I thought the ones I took earlier did not work, I got pregnant anyway" A young girl told me the other day.
Young people lack proper information on the choice of contraceptives. Contraceptive solutions are clear in our minds but the big questions remain, which ones do we run to, to whom and when?
Abortion may not be the option when everything backfires but a solution. We are left to seek information from peers and most times pharmacies. Compared to the US, we count ourselves lucky that youth friendly pharmacies exist in Kenya today.
SHIFT FROM 'PP'

You know how a growing kid loves to play with his penis/her vagina. One morning, 'Juma' a 6 year old boy was caressing his penis (the baby way). His mother interrupted the moment and told Juma, to never play around with his 'respect' again. It was on Sunday afternoon when guests arrived in Juma's home, as they found comfort; Juma enjoyed driving his toy in between the guests feet as he made motorbike noises.
"Show your respect to the guests Juma"!! Juma's mom ordered. Juma indeed obeyed the order .
Valentine's Day....My foot!!

"If you claim to show love everyday why would you need a day assigned 'just' for love?" This was my answer after a friend of mine tried to convince me to attend a Valentine's party for couples. In no time, I had to look for like minded friends. You've got to admit that votes count. Through coffee dates, I met 50 youth age-16 to 29, to support my reasoning. This number includes my brother who is 16 years old.
What is not yours…

In the stone days, my parents would launch a campaign of terror by reading frightening passages from the old testament and praying for illnesses such as leprosy to afflict the thief who would have stolen vegetables in our ‘shamba’ or farm’ until a confession is extracted and goods returned.

FINALLY! We have a space to blog!!Guess one anticipated me to ‘Blog’ on my project. Fasten your belt since I will make myself available every Wednesday. Here at this space. Allow me to introduce myself as an African, I live in Kenya and I love to smile always. My momma land, Kenya..ooohh I cry
Let me cry, tears is the food of souls. From December 2007, ‘Kenya darkest week’ started. We were rocked with violence from the controversial presidential declaration. Am not a political analyst ’wish I were’ but a sober youth who was and still is affected by the violence and disputes.
